Summary

The design theory for this project is based on the stratification that is found in the historic center of Delft. Thorough analysis and unraveling of these layers makes an informed basis for the design. It gives a translation for aspects such as the public-private relationships, functional relationships within the block and the ratio of the block relative to the urban fabric. The theory creates a formula for the design, which becomes a scaling of the city Delft in itself. Reference to characteristic elements of the city as a whole can be found in the new urban block, in this way creating a relationship with its surroundings.
